Thanksgiving and the Whiteout

Thanksgiving was different around here. I made the pepperoni bread and a cheesecake and we had the feast up at Martys. To get there you have to drive on this road that is more like a dirt pit covered with ice. There are so many divets that its like riding a crazy rollercoaster and keeping control of my car was super fun with the slipping and sliding. On Friday the wind was blowing, or as the locals say -"its blowing today". The wind was up to 100 mph and my toyostove was out of fuel so I had to get in the artic gear (fleece pants and shirt, two pairs of socks, a hoodie, snow pants, boots, parka, two hats, and gloves) and head out to fill up three five gallon gas tanks and then climb the ladder outside of my house and hold them one at a time above my head in the blizzard so that I could have heat. Here is a picture of me in snow gear with the wind blowing the snow all around.

Bears at School

For the past few days they have been killing bears left and right here. There are no more fish so the bears are coming into town and eating the trash out of the dumpsters. I saw two running across to Heart Lake and jumping in with the police chasing and shooting bird shot at them to scare them away from town. Then there were some drunks who decided it would be fun to chase the bears down the beach when they wandered into town. The bears headed right for the bar and almost got in when they realized that they were being chased. The bears in this video were outside the school, by the creek and were playing for a while until the police came and shooed them back to the mountain. This is a female with three cubs- who are adolescent- about 1.5 years old and over 300lbs according the someone at the school here.

Halloween

Halloween here was crazy. The kids all dressed up in these elaborate costumes for school and we had a parade. Then after school they all trick or treat- ages 2 to 20 from abou 5pm to 10pm. I went through 6 bags of candy and there were still kids. I was a giant whoopie cushion for Halloween and then Bri and Meg wanted to go to the bars for the costume contest- seeing as how I only had the giant whoopie cushion costume, I did not go.
